Like everyone else I heard about the disaster in Myanmar. The problem is that I personally cannot afford to donate any money to Myanmar disaster relief. I was in the same position after Hurricane Katrina. One of the greatest problems with the recession is that when a disaster happens either here or somewhere else, many Americans honestly cannot afford to donate to disaster relief. I am now getting to a point where I don’t want to see any foreign disasters on TV or online anymore.

America is already gives the least of any developed nation so can’t see it will make any difference.
America gives the MOST of any developed nation. We are standing by with helicopters, air craft carriers, C-130 transport plane and amphibious ships, all ready to deliver our aid and the aid of other nations.
If you can’t afford to donate money now, that’s ok. There are plenty of people who can and will (ie. like Bill Gates’ foundation donating $3 Million). I donated money after Sept. 11th and after hurricane Katrina because I could. I will do what I can to donate money now as well.
Oftentimes, we read on papers or see on television various catastrophes either within our country or in another country. Most of us would like to extend help to those in need. As it is, times are hard that we can’t even afford to donate money. I know there are different ways of extending help like giving old clothes, volunteering our services, etc. Personally, I start doing good deed within my locality and hoping, that in time, I would be financially able to extend on a bigger scale like aiding foreign disaster victims.
Recession will probably cut down America’s budget for foreign disaster relief. It’s only natural that America will give priority to giving aid to those in need within the nation.
