What kind of decorations are appropriate for an engagement party?

apartment decorations

A close friend of mine is having an engagement party and has put me in charge of decorations. This is going to be a small (30 ppl max) and intimate gathering in the living room of a friend’s apartment. Given that, I would like to know what decorations would be best. I was thinking about some flowers and candles, but that’s all I have for now. Any suggestions?

an engagement party should not be that extravagant… just like you said flowers and candles would do. just to make it elegant is the way you present those decorations within the place. you could also use truffle fountains as centerpiece with tray of sliced fruit on one side.

I would find out what colors the bride is using for the wedding(is she has got that far) if not what are the guest of honor’s favorite color. A flower that is cheap are carnations and Gerber daisy’s. They come in a bunch of colors. Another idea is to fill a tall vase ( the 12″-15″) with water and put some of the flower petals in the water and cover the top with a big ( about the size of the vase) floating candle, you could go with a basic white or a colored one. If you are crafty you could make a congrats banner with the couples names in matching theme colors.

probably best to check our a site like Debrett’s, they cover all the “acceptable” things you can and cannot do for Engagements and Weddings - from proposals to after the honeymoon.

I would keep it simple since you are having it in a simple setting. I think candles and flowers would be perfect! This site,, has a great selection of decorative supplies that are really affordable.

Check out these simple yet elegant votive candle holders.

You may want to even pass this site over to the bride-to-be or check out this site together for wedding favor ideas too.

Hope this helps and happy planning!
