you can do it without asking them as long as your not putting big holes in the wall or painting. basically, as long as you can take it back down without damage, its fine.

I think you can decorate anyway you want on the inside, outside you may need permission. I always decorated windows to be seen from the outside so that I didn’t have to worry about asking for permission.

If you’re hanging anything outside, you may need permission, same with things like wreathes on the door. It interupts the look of the apartment, or something!

Inside, I think it should be fine as long as you’re not nailing anything into the walls. And remember, if you get a real tree, put a mat down so you don’t get pine needles all over the floor!

My friend lives in an apartment building and they are only allowed to decorate the inside of their house, they are allowed to put lights in their windows..however they are not allowed to do any type of decorating on the outside. But Im sure it is all up to your landlord, you would have to get hteir permission.

As long as you’re not doing anything extravagant, then its most likely ok. I live in an apartment and although I dont decorate (i.e. windows) because I’m on the first floor and trees block them, a lot of other people do and it looks really nice, its not extravagant, but just enough. I say go for it…enjoy your holiday (even though its early).

last christmas I was in a top floor apartment and outside our front door was just the shared stairs so no decoration there :( I did put a wreath up on the front door as did many people. however, I had a balcony and I decorated the heck out of it!!!! I was not able to decorate any ’shared space’ or anything on the roof but but I put many holes in the walls (inside) and I mostly used a staple gun outside and my landlord was fine with it.

Good luck! Merry Christmas!!!

I wouldn’t think that you would need to ask anyone. Most everyone mostly kids love decorations for any holiday. I don’t think that anyone would oppose. You should just decorate appropriately.

i think that as long as the decorations wouldn’t cause complaint, they would be fine to put up outside your unit. as far as common courtesy and/or regard to the landlord, you should ask just as a precaution. bright lights and loud musical things, however, are questionable

if you are renting an apartment, it is ok to decorate it any way you like, just as long as you do not damage the walls by making big holes or anything like that

jessica12xl5 June 22, 2010 at 3:18 pm

yes you can decorate unless you don’t cause any damage or neighbors complain about it

Cherry Pie June 23, 2010 at 6:19 am

As long as there is no damage to the apartment you should be able to do that.
