I want to know that I’ll be okay whether it’s an act of God (like a freak storm dropping a tree through my living room) or an act of stupidity (like leaving a candle or something and burning down the house). What really worries me is coverage for hurricanes. I don’t mind a higher deductible but I hear so much about people who thought they were covered, only to be told they didn’t read the hurricane clause carefully enough.
I know I would have to purchase flood insurance separately due to zone I live in, but my landlord cannot provide a certificate of elevation (which is needed otherwise I have to buy the $3000/year option). I have a feeling a survey would be more expensive than it’s worth.
So what kind of questions should I ask or what warning signs, etc should I look for?
