How to find a rental apartment in NYC?

Currently in California and moving to NYC in July. Looking for an apartment to rent in Manhattan. Will have only 2 weeks in July to look for it. Whats the best way to go about it without using a broker (expensive!)?

Can a rental apartment in NYC be represented by more than one broker?

My girlfriend and I are using a broker, and have found a really nice place.
However, although we applied, and have perfect credit etc, the broker appears to be dragging his feet.
He says we pretty much have it but has just stopped short of saying itis a done deal.
It has been five days and no lease [...]

I am a guarantor for an apartment rental in NYC. I have the following questions:?

1. Is it normal for the apartment rental company to ask me to co-sign the lease as a TENANT?
2. Would I encounter any resident tax issues even though I do not live in NYC, and never plan to stay at the apartment where my friend resides for whom I am providing the guarantee.Quick Property Sale
