Can a recent college grad making 54k find an apartment in Manhattan?

apartment sales

So I just graduated and was hired for a sales job where my territory is Manhattan.

The Salary is 42k base+12k expected quarterly incentive bonus.

My boss is insisting that I live in my territory (Manhattan). Can I get a one bedroom anywhere in Manhattan that is not riddled with bullets ;) for what I make? I have no debt or anything so I can spend a huge chunk of my pay on rent but I still do not know.

If not how should I talk to my new boss so I can live in queens or something? He is evaluating me and I do not want to get off to a bad start…

Thanks!

Depends on how you want to live? for 2000 dollars a month you can find a one bedroom apartment. Cars would become a luxury

Figure your wages at 70%, the rest goes for taxes—figure your school loans, your cc bills and your cell phone–your car and ins and any other expenses. Then decide if you want to eat or not eat. As for the incentive bonus—very iffy.
