They are checking to see if you’ve ever skipped out on a lease or left an apartment in very poor condition. If you have rented before and you have never skipped out on a lease or trashed the place then you should be fine. If you have not rented before or you have a poor rental history they may want a larger deposit, or they may not rent to you. Good luck.

In most staes it is a credit report, a rental history report with phone calls to verify ur previous rental history. ur job history again a follow up call to ck. on ur employment, will probably ask u for ur most recent pay stub as well, and in most cases the report shows if u have a criminal record, this will include misdemeanors as well as any felonies. And to answer the other part of ur question yes in most cases it is the main factor on u getting the apt or not, there r some exceptions such as u may need a co-signer or a double deposit, that is if they can do this for some circumstances. When u filled out ur application for a apt. all of this should have been explained to u, also if u falsified any info on the app and they find this out u will not get the apt. a rental application is not a lease but still a binding agreement between u and the property. Hope this has been of help. Happy New Year!
