Should I paint my rental apartment?

apartment rental

We have decided to move into an apartment. They are brand new apartments and I would like to paint but I don’t know if I should. I have asked if it would be ok and they said sure as long as I paint it back white when I leave. I was asking one of my co workers was it hard to paint and they said that I shouldn’t waste my time since I didn’t own it. What do you think?

I think you should enjoy where you live, and if you want to paint and the owners said okay, then paint. Painting isn’t difficult especially if you have help.

Paint away if you’re feeling creative!! I don’t know how hard it may or may not be, but it should be a fun experience I would think, and if you don’t like it you can just paint it back to white and leave it at that.

I think there are a few factors for you to consider:

1. How important is it to you to change the color?
2. Do you really want to spend the money painting it and then painting it back?
3. When you are moving out and in to a new place, are you going to want to spend the time painting your old place?

WIth a new apartment you will never get cost-sharing from the landlord so you have the whole expense of the paint job. If you will be there for a while and really always wanted a specific wall color then do it. You can buy paint on sale at off-price stores and get a bunch of friends to pitch in for a pizza party/painting day.

It’s nice to personalise your living space - it feels more like a home!

It’s not difficult to do - you will need a roller and paint tray, a big wide brush and a 2.5 inch brush, some old cloths, and some emulsion paint. It’s great fun! Have a painting party? Unless you want to do it all yourself.

Avoid dark colours, like navy blue, deep crimson. If you stick to muted colours, you may not have to repaint when you leave!

Have a great time.

If you are going to paint, try not paint the walls in a dark color. This is simply because it will be alot more work, when you move, to repaint to white if the walls are dark !!

There are other things that you can do to add color to your apartment without painting it.

You could buy some larger pieces of canvas and paint a few pictures ( even if it is finger painting ) and hang those on the wall to add color and interest. You could also buy some inexpensive posters to hang on the wall. Try adding colorful cushions or drapes for added color. You can even take these with you when you need to move.

I agree that if it makes you enjoy where you live more, then go ahead and do it… but one other thing to consider is how long you’re going to be living there. if you’re going to be there for at least a year, maybe a couple, then go for it… but if you’re going to look for a new place after 6 months then it probably isn’t worth it. also, consider painting just one wall in each room… they do this on home shows a lot and it brightens up the space without all the inconvenience.
