I am a renter in Brooklyn, NY. My lease will expire at the end of this months, but my new place is not ready. I have asked the management office to let me continue leasing on a monthly basis but was told no. Legally, can I stay for another month if I continue to pay rent after my lease expires? What should I do? What is my right as a tenant?

If the mgt says no to a month to month rent, then you will have to vacate the apt on or before the last day of the lease; otherwise you are looking at legal troubles……..you may have to put your belongings in storage and rent a room until the new place is ready
No. Legally you can not force the landlord into a month to month lease. You either agree to a new lease or move out before your lease expires.
Does you lease have a hold over clause? If it does then you might be able to stay. But, I bet it does not.
I would contact your future property owner and tell this person you cannot wait for the unit to get ready. It has to be ready on your move in day.
If it is not ready then your future property owner may be liable for the difference between the daily rent on your apartment and the cost you incurred per day to wait.
